The Moral Struggle!

As if shopping wasn't enough of a hassle I have been educated recently on Fair Trade, Free Trade, and everything between. I feel like I have definitely heard a lot of this information before but for some reason it didn't impact me like it did this time. I have completely altered my shopping habits, spending the last week bookmarking all the eco friendly, U.S. Union made clothes websites. The Selection Isn't quite so vast, but the quality is far superior and if your looking for organically made clothes as well you drastically decrease the amount of chemicals your skin is exposed to every day. anything that can make me a healthier being I am in full support of. While I have altered my shopping habits my duty as an informed person is not done. I will consciously teach others about the positives and negatives that correspond with free trade. I will remind them that they DO have a choice about where they purchase their merchandise. This is still a consumer based economy, so how bout we start supporting our own country and the smaller companies that have stayed true to the consumers. Not trading quality for quantity, or taking advantage of impoverished nations for cheap labor. Small, Local business is how this countries infrastructure was suppose to flourish but somewhere along the line we have all lost sight of that and now we just see dollar signs (who's the cheapest). It's not too late we can take back this country and our humanity. Shop Local, Shop Fair Trade, Shop America!

  1. definitely among the better reasons to buy american is because the quality is better. buying for quality rather than quantity or convenience is the way we ought to shop, and doing so will raise the standard of how goods are valued, in turn positively affecting the entire market environment from production to distribution

  2. Great post, Nick! I couldn't agree more. I always think about the time I had to buy a stapler to hang xmas lights and I had a choice between the cheap-o plastic one or the heavy duty metal one. The difference was that the cheap one was made in China while the metal one was made in the USA. By buying the latter, I supported U.S. workers. Not to mention, the U.S. stapler will probably last much longer, making it cheaper in the long run.
