The Objects of War

The "Artifacts" that are left at the Vietnam Memorial are items that very from awards to personal items that the soldiers identified with in one way or another. The Things They Carry talks about the kinds of items soldiers would carry. whether its a picture of your high school sweet heart or a letter from you mom soldiers need something that  reconnects them with the "real world". Leaving these items at the memorial has turned them into "Artifacts", because they were present during crucial moment in history. I think its all very interesting, the things people cherish when they only have one pocket to fill.
